The care of newborns immediately after birth is important for parents to understand is one of the important factors to reduce neonatal mortality Methods: The research design used was cross sectional with primary data with a sample of 98 mothers who had babies aged 0-6 months. The analysis used is chi square and multiple logistic regression. Results: As many as 72.5% of mothers carried out basic parenting practices for newborns by mothers well. Good maternal knowledge can increase the chances of mothers doing basic care for newborns by their mothers well 3 times compared to mothers who have less knowledge after being controlled by family support variables (p value 0.017; 95% CI 1.2-7.9). Conclusion: Health workers should be able to provide basic knowledge of newborn care since pregnancy and improve health promotion by involving other members of the mother's family.
